Dick's Sporting Goods Announces Decision to No Longer Sell AR-Style & Semiautomatic Rifles

February 28, 2018

This morning, Dick's Sporting Goods Chairman and CEO Edward Stack announced that Dick's is immediately ending the sale of all AR-15s and other semiautomatic rifles in its stores in light of the recent Parkland, Florida, school shooting tragedy. In addition to banning the sale of these rifles, Dick's also said the retailer would no longer sell high-capacity magazines nor would it sell any firearm of any type or caliber to anyone under 21 years of age, regardless of local laws.

Stack appeared on Good Morning America (GMA) this morning and addressed the nation on the company's decision. However, this is not the first time Dick's has made a decision to remove these types of firearms from its stores. After the Sandy Hook tragedy in 2012, Dick's upheld a temporary suspension of these rifles, but later began carrying the firearms at its outdoor and hunting retail chain, Field & Stream.

This time around, when asked if Dick's would ever uplift the newly announced ban, Stack replied "never."
